Accadia 2013 Verdicchio Castello di Jesi Riserva ‘Cantori’ Le Marche
Accadia 2013 Verdicchio Castello di Jesi Riserva ‘Cantori’ Le Marche
A deeply expressive aged-Verdicchio, showing a medley of roasted almonds, baked orchard fruit and lemon confit, a vein of salinity and the weight of a warmish vintage. I love how this wine seems to grow vertically after being open for a few hours.
The story of Accadia begins not in the vineyard but the studio. Angelo Accadia is an accomplished painter who in 1983 purchased a property on the eastern bank of the Esino river with the intention of creating an artist’s studio. Fate had other plans and in the early 90’s he planted almost his entire holding with Le Marche native grapes. Verdicchio is kind of the unsung hero of central Italian whites, marrying aroma and texture in a way that few Italian whites are capable of. The ‘Cantori’ is a selection of the best fruit of a given vintage, pressed in whole cluster and fermented and aged in steel. This white has over 10 years on it, making this a wine that needs a little runway to showcase its true self.
