An intensely perfumed, structured and layered Barolo from the Cavallotto family, the 2018 Bricco Boschis has enormous potential, requiring a little patience and time spent in the decanter. ’18 was a cool-ish vintage with a rough start (rain) but proceeded to build-up perfectly to harvest, imbuing the wines with heady aromas, spice and an ever-evolving expression to dig your palate into. Reminiscent of 2016, but with a stronger aromatic profile.

The Cavallotto family are benchmark Barolista who, oddly, still fly under the radar outside the Langhe. There is no rhyme or reason to this, except to say, we are happy to be in the know! Their home is the hill of Boschis in the village of Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, one of few producers to exclusively occupy a celebrated vineyard since the 1920’s. Alfio, who leads winemaking at the estate, follows a traditionalist playbook using native yeasts and long macerations, aging in large casks known as botti. The Cavallotto wines carry an added structure and varietal expression from the complexity of the areas soils and winemaking strategy employed in the cellar, culminating in a robust house-style all their own. The Barolo are both tightly knit in their youth, possessing the ability to develop and evolve over time quite beautifully.
