Gian Luca Colombo 2022 Vino Rosso ‘Nu’ (1L) Piemonte
Gian Luca Colombo 2022 Vino Rosso ‘Nu’ (1L) Piemonte
A little taste of everyday Langhe is found in Gian Luca Colombo’s Vino Rosso ‘Nu’, a field blend of native grapes bottled for immediate consumption. High toned blue/black berries mixed with a little soil and sunshine is awaiting your glass!
One of the rising winemakers in the Barolo region is Gian Luca Colombo. He has spent the first part of his career as a consulting winemaker, championing the tenants of organic and biodynamic viticulture with colleagues he met in Oenology school. His passion has always been to return home to the village of Roddi, a tiny sub-appellation of Barolo nestled near Verduno. Its unique terroir and micro climate lured him back several years ago and today he tends a growing compound in Roddi, replete with grapes, goats and the local flora/fauna he has revitalized with his sustainable approach. This is his Vino Rosso called ‘Nu’, a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Pinot. The grapes come from his youngest wines, fermented separately and blended, aged in a touch of oak and bottled in 1 litre with a crown cap. What I love about this wine is it reminds me of the uncomplicated, everyday wines of the Langhe. Gian Luca works organically with biodynamic influences (soil, soil, soil) throughout, yet his wines are fully present, thoughtful expressions of place.
