Torre a Cona 2020 Chianti Classico Fiorentini ‘Crociferro’ Toscana
Torre a Cona 2020 Chianti Classico Fiorentini ‘Crociferro’ Toscana
Inexpensive high-quality Chianti is a hard find. I am not talking about wines form the Classico, I mean the regular, everyday-drinking juice the locals lean on. Torre A Cona’s Cronciferro is that supremely solid glass of Chianti. Full stop.
Torre A Cona is an historic property built in the 1500’s, owned and operated by a noble family originally from Piemonte. Niccolò Rossi di Montelera manages 40 hectar of picturesque vineyards outside Florence in one of the satellite appellations of the Chianti Classico area near Florence known as Chianti Colli Fiorentini “Chianti from the hills of Florence”. Led by Federico Curtaz, a respected Oenologist, the team at Torre A Cona work sustainably in the vineyard and winery to produce elegant and reliable Chianti. They adhere to the native grapes of Chianti, with only a dollop of Colorino to balance Sangiovese lack of color and dark fruit. Again, this is a hard find: perfectly manicured vineyards surrounding a lofty estate steeped in history and run by nobility, yet somehow making honest and nuanced wines. A gem hiding in plain sight!
